10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday.
11 The LORD will guide you always;
he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land
and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden,
like a spring whose waters never fail.
12 Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins
and will raise up the age-old foundations;
you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,
Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.
Isaiah 58:10-12
I first heard this passage from my old roommate Bart Draeger. Then again from Josh Mosby prepairing for our mission trip to Asia. Now my job is to lead 280 volunteers at my church and now these verses are more alive to me than ever before. This is what the “C”hurch is all about.
Where did our thinking go wrong? When did the Church become all about “meeting my needs”? When is the Church going to get that we are here for eachother first, so that others my see the love of Christ in how we interact with eachother, then spend ourselves on behalf of those in need. And if we do, we will have our needs met. Our thirst will be quenched and we will produce good fruit from our “well watered garden”. Lets not think about being comfortable or how great we want our lives to be. But lets remember those that are in need and do something about it. Christ didn’t die on the cross so that we can be comfortable. He told us to pick up our crosses and follow Him. We are to die to ourselves to become Christ to the world. This is living. Be radical. Allow Jesus to change the world through you and truly Live!
